Facts and myths about coronavirus.

Updated: Apr 26, 2020

There is so much information on coronavirus that it is difficult to verify what is real and what is not. That is why the World Health Organization has prepared a list of several frequently asked questions and prepared short answers. All of them are available on the WHO website, in the Myth-busters and Q&A tab. What we need to know about SARS Cov-2 is primarily:

  • Covid-19 is a viral disease so that antibiotics won't fight it

  • Garlic can strengthen our immunity (eaten regularly for several months), but it will not prevent the development of the virus

  • Coronavirus can grow in both warm and cold or rainy climates - it's not killed by heat or snow

  • Mosquitoes or other insects cannot transmit the virus

  • The virus cannot be infected by contact with pets

  • The influenza vaccine does not protect against Covid-19

  • The mask does not protect against coronavirus infection

  • The virus can survive on various surfaces, such as paper or metal, from several hours to several days

  • The virus cannot be infected through parcels (including those from China), but only through contact with infected couriers, mail carriers, etc.

How to protect yourself against infection

To prevent the development of the disease and stop its spread, take appropriate action. First of all, we should give up travelling within the country and the world, as well as participation in mass events. Organizers should cancel significant events to prevent the virus from spreading.

You should also take care of proper hygiene - wash your hands several times an hour, using soapy water. One-time hand washing should be extensive and last not less than 30 seconds.

It is also important to minimize contact with other people. If we have such an opportunity, we should switch to remote work, and our employer should make every effort to enable us. If our job is to serve customers, we should ensure a proper distance between them and us. The distance between people should be about 1-1.5 meters so that the risk of infection is as small as possible. We avoid large groups of people - shopping malls, supermarkets and even churches.

If possible, we should also avoid using public transport. Although buses and trams are disinfected regularly, warm buttons do not work, the risk of infection cannot be avoided. When standing up, most people can't balance without holding on to the handrail. Therefore, if we have to travel by public transport, we put on gloves and try to sit down or get as far away from other passengers as possible. When leaving, do not press the buttons - the door will open anyway.

In stores, we use self-service cash registers and choose cashless payment. If possible, let's shop online and order products to parcel machines, instead of paying for the courier service.

Be careful not to touch your face, eyes or nose. The virus quickly penetrates the mucous membranes, so it is especially worth making sure that the contact of our hands with the face is as small as possible. People who have the habit of biting nails, which in the current situation should get rid of as soon as possible, are particularly vulnerable to infection.

It is also worth strengthening immunity and taking probiotic drugs that support our bacterial flora.

If we were travelling abroad or learned that our train might have been infected, let's quarantine immediately and stay at home for a minimum of 2 weeks. If we notice the first symptoms, let's see a doctor or call a special hotline.

These are just a few of the many questions that bother us. However, you have to believe that soon we will know all the answers about this virus. In the meantime, be careful and follow the instructions. Despite many bans and restrictions, try to appreciate what you have. If you can spend time with children, it will allow you to make up for a lost time, which in recent years was lacking because we were chasing money. Stay in touch with your family; it also helps.

Take care of yourself and isolate yourself whenever possible. Don't forget to share this info on your Facebook, Twitter or any other media. People need to know how to protect themself!!!

Thanks for your time.
