What is the difference between Résumé and CV?

Updated: Jan 13, 2020

For the past few months, we have been receiving inquiries regarding the difference between CV and Résumé. Many customers in the Caribbean are not aware that CV and Résumé are two different ways to describe their professional predispositions. Today's article will allow you to understand the fundamental differences.

Let's start with the fact that both versions are a document necessary when applying for any work. The difference between CV and Résumé lies on several levels - length, content and purpose. Learn how to use this knowledge and what to include in your document when applying for a job in England.

CV - Curriculum Vitae

  • CV takes over 2 - 5 pages.

  • Is a chronological description of professional career, education, achievements, awards, certificates and licenses.

  • The CV abbreviation is a maximum of 1-2 pages, on which we present information from the main CV in a concise manner.

  • The CV is static, it should not be adapted to the position. The difference would be visible only in the motivation letter.

Résumé

  • As short as possible. Résumé is a telegram abbreviation of professional career, education and achievements relevant to the position we apply for.

  • It may contain the so-called "resume objective" or professional goal related to the position. And "career summary statement" or one-sentence description.

  • The order in a resume does not have to be chronological, and it can be oriented to positions or be a combination of both.

  • Its purpose is to stand out from the crowd.

Important: In Great Britain, you apply with a CV, in the United States and the Caribbean Résumé is popular, while in Australia both of them. In general, CV is accepted in countries outside the US.

Therefore, applying for a job in England requires a CV, i.e. an extended version. It is a written presentation of a job-seeker in front of the potential employer. The CV is intended to show your education, work experience and skills you have. Writing a good CV, contrary to appearances, is not easy. Probably many readers heard about the importance of the first impression, how much it depends on it and how difficult it is to change it afterwards. We can compare a CV to this first impression, thanks to which we form an opinion about a given person. If your documents are written professionally and attractively, and thus attract the attention of the employer, you will be invited for an interview, and you will get a chance to prove that it is you who is suitable for this position.

Be wise and take our advice. We can create a professional CV for you, so if you are interested, please contact us via email on info@kjbinternationalaid.com and make an order for your CV today... Allow a professional to take care of the procedure, so you can fully enjoy your new start.
